In today’s world, where pollution is rising day by day, it is time to start considering better alternatives where we might be able to produce less waste and save the planet. Did you know, every plastic object we have used still exists on earth. I don’t know about you, but that scares the hell out of me. Imagine in the next 10 years we will be living on a planet covered in waste. Now that is not going to be a pretty sight. Here are a few ways you can reduce environmental waste.
1. STOP USING PLASTIC STRAWS:
Plastic straws can’t be broken down or recycled, and most straws end up in the water stream endangering the wildlife and aquatic animals. It’s estimated that over 100,000 aquatic animals die yearly because of plastic consumption. An alternative to plastic straws, you can use steel straws (there are plenty of affordable ones on amazon), even better, stop using straws at all.
2. USE BAMBOO BRUSHES:
Have you ever been on the beach and seen a stack of toothbrushes? I certainly have. Plastic toothbrushes take more than a century to decompose, making them harmful to the environment. Furthermore, plastic toothbrushes release a chemical during and after being used that can potentially harm the environment and our oral hygiene. There are quite a number of bamboo toothbrushes on amazon that are cost-effective and environmentally friendly.
3. STOP USING PLASTIC BOTTLES:
Studies have found that certain chemicals in plastic ooze out when it comes into contact with something hot. Let’s say a bottle of water is kept out in the heat for a while, what happens is the plastic oozes out a chemical that mixes with the water and makes it toxic to us. What I do is whenever I go out, I keep a reusable bottle of water with me so I can keep filling that up as I go. There are so many affordable options on amazon you can check out.
4. SHIFT TO USING JUTE / CLOTH BAGS:
Do you know, in certain countries, plastic bags are actually banned? That means when you go shopping, you have to BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag!). Plastic bags cause a tremendous amount of air pollution when they are burned and still after that it is not easy to decompose them fully. If left without burning, the plastic bags release harmful chemicals in the soil that possibly renders it harmful or unusable. So always keep a cloth bag with you in your purse because as women, we never know when we are going to start shopping!
5. THROW THOSE PADS AND TAMPONS OUT:
Studies have shown that it takes approximately 500 to 600 years for pads and tampons to fully decompose, now considering the problems they come with for a women’s body, are they truly a good option? I have an entire article about Are Menstrual Cups better than Pads and Tampons. You can go check that out if pads and tampons irritate you too.
6. BUY QUALITY PRODUCTS:
Often we buy cheap products in dupe for the quality ones, but what you don’t understand is cheap products eventually stop working, and then you either get it repaired (that includes more cost) or throw it out, causing more waste in the environment. Now in that situation instead of getting the cheap brand product if you would have bought the quality one, the product would last you a very long time.
7. GO PAPERLESS:
One mistake I have seen a lot of people make and have made myself is printing out unnecessary stuff. No, you do not need 50,000 print outs of your dog’s pictures, go digital and keep them in your phone or hard drive. Did you know, around 80,000 to 160,000 trees are cut daily for making paper? The major reason for climate change is deforestation, now that’s just disturbing.
It is up to us to reduce the waste that is created on our planet. Thanks for tuning in to this post. Please like and follow for more content. Until then, adios, thanks again for being here, and stay safe. Xoxo…..
